Located in the heart of the Marais, the Door Studios This gallery, from May 14 to June 2, 2008, a new exhibition of 60 images of Georges Demeny, one of the fathers of chronophotography in partnership with INSEP (National Sports Institute and the Foundation of the French games.
the heart of an area dedicated to the creation, between art gallery and studio photo, Door Studios Gallery traces the career one of the great forgotten in the history of the image of the late nineteenth century.
Georges Demeny (1850-1917) became interested in 1880 for research on muscular movements
With Etienne-Jules Marey, it developed the method of time lapse, to secure, from a unique perspective and at equal time intervals, the various phases of movement a subject on a black background.
Scientific research on the movement developed in the nineteenth century through the experiences of the British inventor Edward James Muybridge, pioneer of animated photography. Etienne-Jules Marey, physician, physiologist and inventor French, along with Georges Demeny one of his former students became collaborator, developed the research with athletes. Chronophotography plunges us into the fascinating study of human body in action, providing a visual encyclopedia of the mechanics of the body. The look is changing, so the heart of a "frozen animation" between athletic performance and graphic beauty.
This exhibition illustrates the research that form a rich heritage unique and valuable to establish a link between photography and cinema. A replica created by phonoscope Demeny, and a movie filmed and projected onto the gallery walls will be presented.
